I used Crayola because the company does test to make sure there isn't led in their crayons. The color of the crayon stains just enough to make this homemade lipstick recipe add pigment to your lips.
First get out a sauce pan along with a glass container, a crayon color of your choice (or mix for unique colors) and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil. You can also add a teaspoon of castor oil, which is optional but it does offer moisturizing for your lips and a smoother look if you do use it (You can buy it on amazon.com).
Cut the crayon out on a cutting board. I used a serated knife to get a better cut. Peel off the wrapper when you're done cutting.
Put the crayon along with the coconut and castor oil in the glass jar then fill up half way with water in your pan. Put on the burner with the glass jar inside the pan like a double-boiler.
Turn the heat up to medium. I used a chopstick because it was smaller and easier for me to stir the mixture around.
When the mixture is melted pour immediately into a small jar while it is still warm.
This is what mix mix of red and blue crayon colors looked like on my sister.
Definitely not your everyday wearable color but I'd say this color wold be perfect for some funky outfit (or as part of a Halloween costume).
I used a red crayon color for more of an everyday wear.
Each of the crayon colors I used were pretty vibrant when the mixture is still soft.
Once the mixture cools down and hardens, it is harder to get the mixture on your finger. My suggestion is to heat it up in the microwave or use a hair blower to soften it up a bit for your next use. It will pick up on the finger and spread better.
I also suggest you moisture your lips first with a base coat of lip balm or castor oil because the mixture can sometimes be grainy. It will also help spread the color more easily and will add a bit of gloss to the lip.
It's not a "perfect" lipstick but it's fun to experiment with colors and avoid led-filled store lipstick. It's a lot cheaper too.
